Cleaning Your VR Glasses

Keeping your VR headset clean ensures that the glasses and controllers last longer. But how do you best clean a VR headset? And how do you keep the controllers clean? In this blog, we explain all the ins and outs of cleaning and maintaining your VR headset!

Handy Step-by-Step Guide

When a headset is frequently used, you'll soon notice that it can get dirty and start to smell. This is, of course, not surprising; when you're playing an intense game of Beat Saber or VR Boxing, you start to sweat pretty quickly! But did you know that sweat and grime can have detrimental effects on the functioning of your headset? It's not just unpleasant to use a dirty headset, but it can also damage your glasses! Consider lenses that fog up or scratch more quickly, or the facial interface that becomes hard and no longer sits comfortably on the face.

That's why we provide a handy step-by-step guide on this page to keep your VR headset in top condition. After all, a clean headset means a more enjoyable gaming experience!

How to prevent dirt in the VR glasses?

Step 1 is to prevent dirt in your VR glasses. It's logical, of course, because prevention is better than cure. A good way to keep your VR glasses hygienic is by adding a cotton face cover to your VR glasses. A cotton cover is a 100% cotton case that you can easily put over the face foam of the headset. This prevents your face from making direct contact with the soft foam of the face cover, so sweat doesn't seep into the foam but into the cotton cover. And the advantage of a cotton cover is, of course, that you can easily wash it in the washing machine! The cotton face covers come in various sizes and shapes. So there's always a cotton cover suitable for the VR headset you're using!

Instead of a cotton face cover, you can also use a disposable mask. These are often white masks that you can use once or several times. You can easily put the masks on your face or stick them on the headset - depending on which disposable masks you use. Our most sold disposable masks are the universal face masks. The advantage of these masks is that they can be used universally, so you don't have to look for them specifically for a type of VR glasses. The sturdy material makes the masks comfortable to wear and they don't get in the way during play. The disposable masks are ideal for use when you let multiple people play on the same headset.

What can you do to maintain the VR glasses on a daily basis?

We recommend wiping the headset with a cleaning cloth or disinfectant spray. after use. This prevents dust from accumulating inside and outside the headset. In addition, it has the added benefit of making the headset smell fresh and clean after a quick cleaning! For added convenience, it's advisable to replace the original face foam of your headset with a PU leather face replacement. A PU leather face replacement is a new face replacement made of imitation leather. The outer material of this face replacement is much sturdier than the original foam face replacement of a VR headset, making this replacement much easier to clean. Simply wipe a cleaning cloth over the PU leather, and you'll see that the headset is immediately fresh and clean to use again.

How to clean the lenses of a VR glasses?

An important part of your VR headset is, of course, the lenses. The lens of your VR glasses is only 5 to 10 centimeters away from your face, so every scratch or speck of dust is greatly magnified in your field of vision. Therefore, it's advisable to regularly wipe the lenses of the VR headset with a microfiber cloth (please note, do not use kitchen or toilet paper for this as it may scratch the lenses). If the lens is really dirty, we recommend using a special Lens Cleaner Spray for VR Glasses to clean the lens. This spray has been extensively tested and ensures that spots and other dirt can be easily removed from the lens without damaging it. Be careful not to spray the spray directly onto the lenses, but first onto a cloth. This prevents any residual residue from being left behind.

We also recommend everyone to always use a KlearKare Universal VR Lens Protector. This is a small layer of hardened plastic that you can apply to the lenses of your VR glasses (similar to a screen protector for your phone). A VR lens protector prevents scratches on the lenses of the headset, even if you play with glasses under your VR headset. This makes the VR lens protector an essential accessory for your VR headset.

How to clean the VR headset and controllers?

Fortunately, the headset and controllers themselves are fairly easy to clean. We recommend wiping the headset occasionally with a microfiber cloth to remove the dust layer. If you notice that the headset no longer smells fresh, you can use a disinfectant spray. The disinfectant spray kills bacteria on the headset and in the foam, quickly eliminating unpleasant odors and making the headset smell 'like new' again. The same goes for the controllers; occasionally spray the controllers with the disinfectant spray to ensure that no nasty bacteria or other dirt remains on the controllers!
