Which Accessories are a Must-Have?

From a headband that makes the VR headset more comfortable to a charging station where you can conveniently store and charge your VR headset and controllers. By now, there is a handy accessory for everything. In this blog, we list our top accessories for the Meta Quest 2, so you can quickly see what might be useful for you!

1. Elite Strap

Perhaps the most well-known accessory for the Quest 2 is the Elite Strap. But did you know there are different types of Elite Strap? The most famous Elite Strap is the one from Oculus itself. This band replaces the soft elastic that comes standard on the VR headset. At the back of the Elite Strap, there is a round cushion and a knob. With this knob, you can adjust the headband, making it a lot more comfortable than the standard elastic bands.

As alternatives, there are the Elite Straps from BoboVR and KIWI design. The BoboVR M2 Elite Strap is characterized by placing a wide facial cushion against the forehead. This distributes the weight of the VR headset more evenly overall, resulting in less pressure on the eyes. The BoboVR Elite Strap is available with or without a battery. The handy thing about the version with a battery is that it's 'hot-swappable.' This means you can remove the battery without the VR headset turning off. Ideal when you want to play for extended periods, or for example, use the VR headset at a trade show or event.

2. Oculus Link Cable

The Meta Quest 2 is essentially a standalone VR headset, but did you know that you can also connect it to a computer using a cable? This allows you to utilize the graphical power of your PC, opening up a whole new world of VR games. Connecting your Quest 2 VR headset to a computer is called Oculus Link. It's recommended to use a slightly longer cable (5 meters) for this so you still have enough room to move around freely.

Tip: to use Oculus Link, your computer needs to meet certain specifications. Check here if your PC meets these.

3. Charging Station

If there's one thing that's annoying, it's playing and your VR headset suddenly dies because your batteries are empty. Therefore, use a VR charging station to charge your VR headset! Besides charging, it also looks tidy to store your VR headset away. A VR charging station is available in different variants. You can use one to charge just your Quest 2 VR headset, or it's also possible to charge (the batteries of) your controllers directly.

4. Face Replacement Set

You can replace the original mask on the Meta Quest 2 VR headset, for example with something that's softer, thicker, or made of different material. A soft face cushion makes the VR headset more comfortable against the face. A thin face cushion can bring your eyes closer to the lenses (and thus the action), while a thick face cushion can be handy when you want to wear glasses under the VR headset.

Additionally, you might consider a different face cushion if you have an allergic reaction to the foam of the VR headset. For instance, you can also pull a silicone mask over the face cushion so that the foam doesn't come into direct contact with your face.

5. Travel Case

When you want to take your Quest 2 VR headset with you or store it away, it's handy to do this in a travel case or storage case. But when you're using your VR headset with an accessory like the Elite Strap, it's important to ensure that the accessory also fits in the travel case. There are several different travel cases available that fit with the various shapes of the Elite straps.

6. Powerbank or Extra Battery

Connect an extra powerbank or battery to your Quest 2 VR headset to play longer. You can use a standard external powerbank, but there are also special powerbanks made for the Quest 2 VR headset. These powerbanks can be placed on the back of the Quest 2 VR headset and are nicely integrated into the headband. The advantage of placing a powerbank on the back of the VR headset is that it provides a sort of 'counter-weight' to the VR headset. This results in less weight and pressure at the front of the headset, but it's better distributed across the middle of the VR headset.

7. Controller Protection

In addition to protecting your VR headset, of course, you also don't want your controllers to break. When you're playing a game of Beat Saber a bit too enthusiastically, for instance, you might accidentally hit the wall or ceiling. Therefore, protect your controllers well with a sturdy controller grip. Besides protecting your controller, the grips also make them fit better in your hands. A silicone cover, for example, makes the controller feel less slippery, and therefore, less likely to slip out of your hands.

8. Lens Protection Rings

Especially when playing with glasses on, you don't want the sharp corners of your glasses to hit the lenses. This can cause scratches and smudges on the lenses. With lens rings, you essentially put a kind of wall around the lenses. This wall prevents the sides of your glasses from hitting the lenses. The lens rings are also very handy to use in environments where different people wear the VR headset. In addition, some lens rings come in a fun color, so you can also use the rings to mark your Quest 2 VR headset or give it a different look.

9. VR Headset Stand

Lastly, a handy accessory if you want to store your VR headset neatly. A VR Headset Stand can be used to display your VR headset nicely in the room. A VR Headset Stand can often be used universally with other VR headsets, not just the Quest 2 VR headset. However, a VR Headset Stand may have space for controllers. In that case, it's a VR Headset Stand specifically suitable for the Quest 2 VR headset.

10. Headphones or Earbuds

Good sound is essential for a great gaming experience. Sound already comes out of the sides of the Quest 2 VR headset by default, but by adding external headphones or earbuds, you can better determine the direction of the sound. For instance, are you playing a game where you have to sneak around in the dark? Then you also want to hear if someone is walking behind you. The Quest 2 VR headset comes with a standard 3.5 mm audio jack, so you can connect any headphones or earbuds in principle. But it's best when you use headphones with a shorter cable, so you don't accidentally get tangled up in the cable with your controllers.
