Facebook temporarily halts Oculus Quest 2 sales due to 'skin irritation'
Several users indicate that the standard facial interface of the Quest 2 headset provokes an annoying allergic reaction (this is different from the pressure spots you can experience with a headset).
Hygienic solutions
Because of these reports, Oculus has decided to put the entire sale of the Quest 2 headsets on hold. This means that the Oculus Quest 2 headset will not be available for purchase for several weeks. The current expectation is that Oculus will come out with a new variant of the Quest 2 (128GB) by the end of August 2021, which will directly use a new type of facial interface. From then on, we expect the Oculus Quest 2 to be widely available again.
This report also highlights the importance of hygienic solutions for VR headsets. Fortunately, there are now a lot of products on the market that can make the use of the headset more pleasant. Use a silicone mask, a new PU facial interface, or our Universal VR masks to improve the comfort and hygiene of your VR experience.
