Simulating combat situations
Virtual Reality is already being widely used in the training of military personnel and police officers. VR training can be effectively utilized to simulate combat or other dangerous situations, teaching the appropriate ways to handle such situations. A virtual simulation enables a soldier or officer to immerse themselves in a dangerous scenario, without the risk of personal injury. An added advantage is that simulation training requires much less time, space, and money than, say, an extensive role-play. All you need is a PC, a headset (HMD), and a minimal space of 3x3m

Training in dangerous or hard-to-reach environments
Military personnel and police officers need to be prepared for any conceivable situation. Unfortunately - and thankfully - not every dangerous situation can be recreated in the real world. Training in the virtual world is the ideal solution to experience a dangerous situation in a highly realistic manner, without having to worry about physical risks. Military personnel can undergo virtual training in a war zone, or prepare for a terrorist threat, while police officers can quickly find themselves on the streets of Amsterdam to arrest a drug gang. All this without the associated physical risks, but still with a very realistic experience
Training for complex medical procedures
VR is also perfectly suited for medical applications. Many hospitals use VR capabilities for simulating and preparing for medical procedures, and schools use it for (medical) students to provide, for example, anatomy lessons. Here too, the situation can be simulated in the virtual world, allowing you to practice a scenario in every possible way. The military can make good use of this by performing a medical procedure under stressful conditions. Or what about police officers, who have been involved in a firefight and a colleague has been hit in the arm? With VR, situations can be simulated to provide a lifelike experience for the user, and thus a good preparation for the real work

Practice with different firearms
Choosing a new weapon is not an easy task. Weapons are not cheap, and it can be challenging to determine the right weapon for heavy use. With VR, you can simulate the use of the weapon first. In the virtual environment, you can use a weapon with haptic feedback, replicating the recoil and experience of your chosen weapon as realistically as possible. This saves the cost of testing different weapons and gives a good initial impression of how the weapon feels and fits in your hand. If the simulation feels good, you can then test the weapon in real life!

Simulating different types of vehicles
If you want to fly an airplane or helicopter, it's wise to first get a feel for it. Students who want to become pilots receive their initial training in a flight simulator before stepping into a real airplane. This simulation can also be perfectly used for training for other vehicles. What about someone who has to drive a large truck for the first time? Or a police officer who has to cross a busy intersection for the first time with blaring sirens? All of this can be simulated in a safe practice environment to be well-prepared for the real situation. Military personnel can even use VR to simulate a realistic parachute jump.
