Protect your VR headset from sunlight
With all VR headsets, particularly standalone headsets like the Oculus Quest 2, it's crucial to keep the goggles out of the sun at all times. Even the smallest sunbeam aimed directly at the lenses of the VR headset can cause a burn spot on the lenses. These spots can be recognized by a (usually) dark point surrounded by a light circle. In some cases, the burn spot is so severe that it appears to be a large smeared spot.
Sun protection accessories
Unfortunately, sun damage, just like fall and water damage, is usually not covered by the standard warranty that you have on a product. Therefore, make sure you never leave the headset (and especially not the lenses!) in the sun or facing the sun. This will prevent unnecessary damage to your VR headset.
The best way to protect your VR headset from the sun is, of course, to never use the headset outdoors or in direct sunlight (in many cases this doesn't benefit the tracking either). If you still decide to use the VR headset outdoors, always make sure you never leave the VR headset with the lenses facing the sun.
The following accessories are recommended to protect the lenses of your VR headset:
- VR Lens Cover (for Oculus Quest and Oculus Quest 2)
- Hardshell Travel Case (for Meta Quest 3)
- VR Lens Protector (For Meta Quest 2/3 and Pico 4)

Follow these tips to protect your VR headset
- Never place your headset in direct sunlight to prevent the lenses and the screen from getting damaged. Your headset can be permanently damaged by less than a minute's exposure to direct sunlight.
- Do not place your headset near sharp objects (such as cable ends or keys) to prevent scratches on the lenses.
- Be careful when adjusting the headset or the straps to prevent damaging them.
- Do not use or wear the headset when it is connected to the power adapter or charging.
Prevent general damage
- Never place your headset in extremely hot places (such as in a car).
- Never place your headset near heat sources (such as a stove).
- Never place your headset near pets or small children.
- Ensure you do not eat, drink or smoke near your headset.
- Store your headset in a safe place when not in use.
